Governor Letter February 2020

Saturday, February 1, 2020

Hanspeter Pfister, DG

February is Rotary International's month of peace. Peace is also an important topic in our district. We are members of the Rotary Action Group for Peace. More about this association of Rotarians - which you can also join - at this link.

On 16 + 17 July 2020 a "Peace Projects Incubator" will take place in Geneva. Swiss Rotarians and Rotary Peace Fellows want to make a contribution to a peaceful world and work on 20 concrete projects in 10 different areas at this meeting. This conference is supported by our benefit concert Rotary Foundation Switzerland. Registration for participants will follow later.

Give your loved ones a tulip bouquet and support PolioPlus!

Our Agenda District 1980 is full of important dates: At the 7 regional conferences in early February, presidents, president-elect, secretaries, and other interested Rotarians can learn firsthand about the current and upcoming Rotary year.

The Rotary Ski Challenge is something for our sporty cross-country skiers in the Engadine!

Rotary International has decided that, effective immediately, environmental protection will be included in the six areas of focus of The Rotary Foundation. RC Arlesheim is already much further along and will host the Mare Nostrum symposium on 13 March 2020.

The PETS and the District Assembly in Lugano are a must for every Rotarian in our district. More information can be found under this link. The registration is open.

Finally, the second Run for water will take place on 27 April in Lucerne in favour of WaterBox. We hope again for as many motivated participants and donations as in 2019!

Looing back: The Vocational Training Workshop on 13.01.2020 in Pratteln was exciting. The new mission statement for vocational education and training was presented. Many Rotarians should become more aware of their vocation. We are all members of a Rotary club because of our professional diversity. That makes Rotary exciting.
